Salary: $90,000 - $120,000 DOE
Position: Full Time

Our client is a family-centered practice in the Pilbara, Western Australia committed to providing innovative, multidisciplinary, evidence-based therapy approaches to paediatric therapy. Their relationship-based approach aims to create connections to support the whole child and their family, faced with disability and/or communication challenges. They are looking to hire an experienced clinical psychologist to join their growing team.

Role and Responsibilities

Clinical

  • Provide assessment and diagnosis of mental health disorders as well as assessment and diagnosis of neurodevelopmental/intellectual and learning [dis]ability.
  • Performs psychological assessments to appraise cognitive, emotional and behavioural functioning of children and their families,
  • i.e. interview, systemic observations, psychometric and psycho-diagnostic assessments and evaluation of systems.
  • Analysis of client needs to provide individual, group and team interventions and the development of treatment programs using culturally appropriate and evidence-based practice.
  • Safe and ethical implementation of evidence-based therapies.
  • Advises and consults with Mental Health Team staff on psychological aspects of casework and interventions.
  • Engage in multi-disciplinary discussions to ensure best practice and quality intervention planning.
  • Uses psychological principles to contribute to the development of multi-disciplinary treatment plans for children.
  • Initiates and participates in quality improvement in consultation with line manager to evaluate service delivery and meet client needs.
  • Initiates and participates in ongoing evaluation of clinical practice.

Administration

  • Maintains client information in accordance with organisational, Professional and the National Disability Insurance Scheme requirements.
  • Maintains own calendar and client database.
  • Provides guidance to the multidisciplinary team for risk assessment and safety planning, including for disclosures of risk and/or child safety concerns as necessary.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies.

Education/Training

  • Provides supervision, mentoring and facilitation of skill development to the Mental Health Team as required.
  • Develops, prepares and presents training for staff in relation to psychological assessment, diagnosis and interventions.
  • Develops resources and programs for the use of other staff in areas of expertise.
  • Provides training to the multidisciplinary team
  • Engages in continued professional development/education and ensures continued professional registration.
  • Maintains and manages external supervision from board approved supervisor.
  • Participates in performance planning and performance reviews.

Other

  • Performs duties in line with the Australian Psychological Society’s Code of Ethics
  • Performs duties in accordance with organisational Policies and Procedures.
  • Performs duties in line with the National Disability Insurance Scheme Act 2013 (NDIS Act) and Disability Services Act (WA) 1993.
  • Performs duties in accordance with relevant Occupational Health and Safety and Equal Opportunity Legislation.
  • Conducts duties in a manner that is ethical and promotes a positive image of the practice.
  • Delivers outreach services as required.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

Skills and Experience

Essential Position Criteria

  • Two years post graduate master’s degree in clinical or counselling psychology or approved equivalent
  • Eligible for full registration and endorsement in Clinical Psychology with the Psychology Board of Australia.
  • General Registration with the Australia Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in clinical psychological assessment procedures, interview techniques and intervention practices pertaining to children and their families.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in the planning, implementation and evaluation of Psychology service quality.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervision and support for staff and/or students.
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural setting considering the social determinants, particularly as they relate to Aboriginal Health and Culture.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills including demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals and external agencies both on individual patient-management matters and on general service issues.

Desirable Position Criteria

  • Ability to apply for Medicare provider number.
  • Availability to travel across the region, including overnight stays.

Appointment prerequisites

  • Provision of the minimum proof of identity requirements – 100 points
  • Evidence of current professional registration
  • Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Current C Class drivers’ license

  • Resources: use of work laptop, work mobile phone (during clinic hours) and vehicle (to attend appointments)

  • Work in a multidisciplinary team (over 200 years of combined experience) to support the needs of children and their families

  • Further to this there is a a labour agreement with the government which will allow us to apply for 494 visas – the practice gets priority with applications and age concessions up to 55 years of age.
  • Full-time staff work 8-hour days with a half an hour lunch break. The clinic is open 8-5.30 and the daily hours are usually set around client needs.
