The Project Engineer is responsible for providing co-ordination throughout all phases of construction project. Depending on the project in hand; tender responsibilities, design coordination and site supervision will all form part of the role.
Role and Responsibilities

Operations
- Assist the Project Manager/Coordinator to implement the Integrated Management Plan
- Manage project design finalization where applicable:
- Manage consultants by setting standards, deliverables, objectives and holding people accountable for meeting them
- Develop and implement design program and work with the project team to ensure design deliverables do not delay project delivery
- Undertake and manage services coordination to ensure it is integrated in all construction documentation
- Manage DA and authority approvals where applicable
- Undertake the following when fulfilling the Site Supervisor role on project:
- Develop and implement construction and short range programs
- Review design details and raise RFI’s to obtain required design information from the project consultant team
- Run weekly subcontractors meeting on applicable projects
- Monitor, status and review programs to ensure time requirements are met providing regular progress reports to the Project Manager & Construction Manager
- Monitor and inspect the work of sub-contractors to ensure quality of work, adherence to schedules and satisfactory completion of works
- Manage the rectification of defects and satisfactory completion of work in line with Xenia’s aim of defect free Practical Completion on all projects
- Consult with sub-contractor and consultants to resolve day-to-day construction and design issues
- Maintain an up-to-date daily Site Diary
- Manage the sample approval process where required
- Review shop drawings and manage the approval process
Financial
- Adhere to financial procedures including requisition and approval requirements
- Assist administration staff in monthly review of subcontractor progress claims where required
- Contribution to developing the scope of works prior to letting of sub contractor packages and ensure subcontractors deliver in accordance with their scope
- Manage site works to minimise variations wherever possible
- Ensure no day labour is engaged or variation works directed without Project Manager Approval
- Obtain competitive prices for purchase orders and take all reasonable measures to ensure they remain in budget
- Monitor the progress of sub-contractors on site and ensure correct implementation of design
- Manage the procurement schedule and provide regular reports to the Project Manager
People
- Review and mentor cadets/assistant administrators/site engineers
Customer
- Operate at all times in accordance with Xenia’s business philosophy of the client being recognized as a true partner, and Xenia as a service provider
- Ensure sub-contractors are aware of Xenia’s commitment to the client
- Liaise with the client, the client’s agent or end users as determined by the Project Manager
- Communicate relevant project information as appropriate to consultants, authorities, sub-contractors and project staff
Skills and Experience
Essential Knowledge & Experience (Role Specific)
- Background in Engineering, Construction and Delivery process
- Knowledge of Engineering and Building Principles
- Ability to read drawings
- Knowledge of the Building Code of Australia
- Knowledge of Design, Estimating and Procurement
- Knowledge of the payments act relevant to the area of employment
Essential Competencies and Training
- Prior to commencing employment:
- Bachelor Degree – relevant fields including Engineering or Construction Management
- General Industry Induction – White Card
- NSW Drivers Licence
- First Aid Training
- Within six months of commencing employment (provided by Xenia):
- Procore Certification
- QBCC Site Supervisor Licence
