Aussie Rules Footy has really taken off in Ireland in recent years and Aussie and Irish players and enthusiasts returning home started clubs in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Kildare and Belfast. We also have a men’s international team, the Irish Warriors and a women’s international, the Irish Banshees. Ireland has produced some real footy stars who have been named in the All Australian team. Jim Stynes was named on the squad in 1993, then came the legendary Marie Keating in 2011, and this year it’s Orla O’Dwyer who has been named in the 2022 AFLW All Australian Team.

AFL matches in Ireland are known to be great social gatherings, with beers and BBQ and an outgoing and friendly spirit. So if you’re new to the sport, feel free to go along and watch some of the matches. There will always be lots of welcoming people around to explain the rules.
