Snowy 2.0 is a pumped hydro expansion of the mighty snowy scheme. It is a nationally significant project to provide clean, affordable, and reliable energy for generations to come. Strategically located between Sydney and Melbourne, snowy 2.0 will link two existing dams through underground tunnels, and a power station will be built almost one kilometre underneath the mountains.
Hydroelectricity is generated when falling water spins giant turbines. Snowy 2.0 turbines are reversible and will pump the water back up to the top dam where it will be stored and used to generate energy on demand.
